Top Canyonlands Courses When You’re Ready to Swing a Club

Canyonlands golf often serves up memories radically different from those offered up by courses in less arid climes. Slap a wayward shot or two out of the rocks and stare down a reptile or two. Play near dusk and watch the setting sun make sandstone cliffs come alive with color. Many canyonlands courses are found in the rugged high deserts in Arizona, near Las Vegas and Mesquite, NV, and in eastern Utah near Moab. Here are a few places to ship your golf clubs to:

Gold Canyon Resort

Gold Canyon’s 36 holes offer high desert golf east of Phoenix in the foothills of the Superstition Mountains. The Dinosaur Mountain course is rated four and a half stars by Golf Digest and it often hosts significant tournaments. Dramatic elevation changes from tee-to-green are the norm.

Once you’re here teeing it up in the high Sonoran Desert, it’s hard to believe that you are only 35 minutes from Phoenix’s International Airport. If you’re in town for a convention or meeting, bring your golf clubs and, check out the courses at Gold Canyon. Ship golf clubs right to the resort if you prefer.

Moab Golf Club

When one thinks of Moab, images of bikers defying gravity on the huge, rounded sandstone outcroppings in the area may come to mind. The famed stone arches at nearby Arches National Park also seem to defy the laws of physics.

Moab also offers up those rich red sandstone boulders in a great canyonlands golf experience at Moab Golf Club. The brightly colored greens look all the more stunning against a backdrop of rugged sandstone cliffs. This par 72 course measures 6879 yards. It plays to a 122 slope. You’ll use all of your golf clubs at this complete test of your golfing prowess.

Mesquite Golf Courses

Any golfer visiting Vegas can zip northward on the Interstate for an hour and a half and experience true canyonlands golf around Mesquite, NV. Lush green fairways wind though rippled valleys and between steep, jagged ridges. The result is at times otherworldly. Sometimes the fairways look like carpets rolled out across an old quarry.

Grass rough is at a premium in this desert terrain where water is scarce. Being in the rough means being in the rocks more often than not. This is a place to hit it ‘short and straight’. If you make Mesquite your vacation destination, you can ship golf clubs right to whatever casino or hotel you are staying at.
